The Government of Saskatchewan projects ”over the next five years that 21,000 new employment opportunities will be created due to economic growth” and that “forecasts suggest Saskatchewan will be short 13,000 to 15,500 workers annually by 2012.” Attracting skilled immigrants is one of the three ways the government has planned to attack these shortages.
From reading the papers, we all know the worker shortage in neighbouring provinces such as B.C. and Alberta will be even worse. As well, other countries are now ramping up their recruitment and immigration strategies to solve worker shortages.
